A Unique Taxpayer Reference Number, or UTR, is a ten-digit code issued to an individual by HMRC when they have been registered for Self Assessment. This can be found on any correspondence HMRC have sent to you regarding your tax return. Or if you already have a HMRC online account, you can find your UTR there,
What are key tax dates?
The tax year runs from 6th April each year to the following 5th April. Your self assessment tax return for that period will need to be submitted by 31st January.
Is there a penalty if I submit my return late?
Yes, HMRC charge a minimum of £100 if your return is not submitted by the 31st January
